APA Compiling & Publishing

The APA is published and distributed to members every other month (6 issues per year). Your zines are due to the Central Mailer by the second Saturday of the month of publication. The first issue is mailed out in mid-February, with subsequent issues appearing in April, June, August, October, and December.

The Central Mailer (CM) goes through the following steps to compile the APA to send to members.

The Central Mailer (CM) receives multiple copies of everyone’s zines.
The Table of Contents and front & back covers are added. The CM may also add relevant news articles, and information about upcoming comic conventions or other events.
The CM mails a copy to each member of the group. The APA is usually sent as Media Mail but you can choose a faster option. Every member receives a copy of the digital edition as well.

The CM collates the individual zines, creating a complete issue for each member.
The collated zines are stapled together to form a single magazine.

Why a Print Medium?

Members may choose to receive the printed APA for a variety of reasons:

  • There is the tactile joy of holding the APA, just like any other printed reading material.
  • People may have limited computer or internet access at home.
  • Additional technology is not required to read the printed APA.
  • Printed works are easier to read in the bathroom!

The APA is always made available to view or download as a PDF. Contact the Central Mailer for more information.
